On February 28, 2025, the Dental Practice Owner’s Financial Summit was held at the Fawcett Center on the OSU campus. The weather for travel was great, the venue was excellent and the food was sumptuous. Here are four invaluable resources from the Summit:

1. Important Challenges in Dentistry Today

Recent AGD National President, Dr. Hans Guter who practices in Circleville, OH, kicked off the day. Dr. Guter’s presentation drilled down on three important challenges in dentistry today. These topics were a.) the dental hygiene shortage, b.) low insurance reimbursement rates and c.) DSOs.

2. Financial Transition Planning

Doug Feller and Brigette Lafferty with REA and Associates presented on financial transition planning and maximizing retirement contributions.

3. Legally Avoid Paying Capital Gains

National Structured Installment Sale expert and speaker extraordinaire, Monty Walker, a CPA who flew in from Texas, shared with attendees how they can legally avoid paying $100’s of thousands in capital gains tax at the time their practices are sold. He also threw cold water on Deferred Sales Trusts.

4. How to Improve Practice Profitability & Value Simultaneously

Practice broker Bob Brooks, with Practice Endeavors, LLC, shared best practices for simultaneously improving practice profitability and practice value. Bob also shared case studies of private practice sales and DSO sales.
